About
Steenenbrug takes its name from the historic Steenenbrug, the first bridge to cross into the town once known as Van der Stel se Bos, the second settlement established in South Africa. Built in 1691 at the foot of the Papegaaiberg, along the route of the old wagon road, the bridge served as the main gateway between Cape Town and Van der Stel se Bos for over 260 years. Carefully restored over time, Steenenbrug still stands true to its original position and alignment, with elements of its original stonework preserved, a lasting symbol of connection, heritage and journey.
